How can I find a disease-free pedigree dog? |
Dog owners can find disease free pedigree dogs by checking the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) Canine Thyroid Registry. Dogs that test positive for TgAA should not be used in breeding programs. Since thyroiditis can develop at any age, breeding dogs should be tested yearly until 4 years of age and then every other year after that. (i.e. 1,2,3,4,6,8 years etc.) Dogs under one year old cannot be accuratly tested. Visit the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals web site |
